If the answer’s ‘no’, then you’re not alone. A survey by another UK mortgage broker* revealed that more than eight in 10 people (83.37%), from a respondent pool of 1,500, wouldn’t either.

Whilst artificial intelligence (AI) is booming, it appears that people looking for good mortgage advice in the UK would still prefer to seek it from a human being and not an AI mortgage broker.

Interestingly, the findings also revealed that 92.8% felt that an AI broker would make more errors than a human mortgage broker.

And this isn’t exclusive to an older demographic, either. When it comes to the 18 – 24 and 25 – 34 age brackets (arguably the generations most likely to embrace technology), 56.9% and 50.2% respectively claimed to not trust technology to recommend a suitable mortgage product.

Personal touch

As a Guildford mortgage broker, we believe that it’s impossible for the best mortgage advice to come from a machine on the basis that good mortgage advice is a highly nuanced area. It’s also very different for each and every person applying for a mortgage.

Our team of Surrey mortgage brokers will always say that no two mortgage applications are ever the same. This can be the result of a whole host of variables, such as the client’s credit history, their monthly outgoings or whether they’re looking for self-employed mortgages or adverse credit mortgages.

Crafting a mortgage application is a bit like baking a cake; you need to assemble the right components in the right order and at the right time. Provide too much information and you can overcook the case for a mortgage. Offer up too little and the application may be left underdone.

Can AI manage this intricate balance? Our mortgage brokers in Guildford don’t believe it can.

Human element

Getting a mortgage in the UK isn’t like ordering a gift from Amazon, which most people would probably be more than happy for AI to manage.

For starters, it’s likely that a mortgage will not only be the largest amount of money you borrow, but that it will be used to purchase the largest asset you’ll ever own. Would you entrust technology alone to determine what’s best for you when it comes to making a decision of this magnitude?

Call our team of Guildford mortgage advisers old fashioned, but we all still like to see the whites of our clients’ eyes (and we feel that they like to see ours, too!). We still like to have the personal conversations in and around the exploratory ones. And we still like to see the reactions on our clients’ faces when we let them know that they can get the mortgage they need to buy their next home.

That’s not to say that AI doesn’t have a role to play in enhancing the benefits of using a mortgage broker. We just think that when it comes to AI mortgage brokers vs human mortgage brokers, right now, in 2025, human mortgage brokers still win.
