First time buyers are increasingly using mortgage brokers to help them buy their first home – and in a big way, too.
Research produced by Yorkshire Building Society revealed that over a third of respondents would use a mortgage broker, and that just over another third did not want to embark on applying for a first time buyer mortgage alone.
Perhaps what’s most interesting is that 28% of respondents stated that they didn’t know where to search to find good mortgage deals.
So, what does this mean? Well, firstly it means that the benefits of using a mortgage broker are becoming clearer, particularly with those just entering the property market. It also suggests that there is a degree of anxiety associated with buying a property for the first time.
As a Guildford mortgage broker we see this for ourselves on a daily basis, and it’s not hard to see why. Many first time buyers have spent years saving up for a deposit for a first time buyer mortgage. Then, just as the end goal is in sight, the average property value increases, thus eroding the value of their deposit and pushing their goal out of reach.
It’s no wonder, then, that those with a first time buyer mortgage deposit and who are ready to go, either through sheer persistence or as a result of help from family, are anxious to get it right first time.
This is echoed in separate research carried out by www.money.co.uk and reported here, which highlighted first time buyer fears. These included:
1. Not being able to match their deposit saving rate with the rate at which property values are increasing (26%)
2. Breaking up with someone after buying a property together (11%)
3. Being unable to afford the mortgage long-term (22%)
We pride ourselves on making applying for a mortgage as stress-free as possible, and we certainly believe that getting a first time buyer mortgage shouldn’t be anxiety inducing. Furthermore, many of the mortgage anxieties and fears that people are experiencing could quickly and easily be allayed by one of our first time buyer mortgage brokers in Guildford.
